A few years ago, Andrew enlisted in the Air Force. At first I was against it. I mean, after all, I’m his mom and I wanted to keep him safe. But I got to talk to the recruiter, got lots of questions answered and Andrew even took me to meet the recruiter.
When Andrew was officially sworn in, I was there. I watched my child raise his right hand and take an oath to protect our country from ‘threats foreign and domestic’ obey orders from the commander in chief and a lot of other words I don’t remember because I couldn’t hear them over the movie of his life playing in front of my eyes. Andrew was sworn in by a Major. After the swearing in, the Major saw the tears in my eyes and looked at me and told me that I had just become a part of one of the largest families I would ever know and that Air Force is one huge family and we take care of each other.
That touched my heart deeply. Since that time I have always done my best to reach out to other Air Force families. Recently Cindy posted a thread on SCS about her mom. Cindy is part of that huge Air Force family, her dad was Air Force. Cindy’s dad passed away a year ago and her mom was sad and in need of cheering up. Cindy had requested cards for her mom. I sent her mom a couple of cards and will continue to do so.
But today, there was a box on my porch from . . . gee, I wasn’t sure. I looked, didn’t really recognize the name, but Wisconsin. . . hmmm…who do I know in Wisconsin. Ok, so, I admit I’m like a little kid on Christmas morning when it comes to packages. I tore that baby open and found all of these goodies

Cindy, thank you so very much! You are so sweet! I never expected anything for sending a card, but you have touched my heart! The Major was wiser than I ever knew . . .the Air Force family spreads far and wide and we are all tied together by a common thread. That thread ties our hearts together in ways we never imaged when our loved one enlisted.

This is so touching Michelle! How very kind of her and so thankful for your son's service for our country. My dad is a retired officer (USMC) and my brother is currently in the USMC so my hat is off to you and your son! Thank YOU!
What a touching story. I know how you feel about your son in the military. As you know mine went in the Marines (desert storm) and if that was not enough to stress me out, he did his four years and then went into the army, did his 2 years, now he is full time in the national guard and he got new's today that he will be deployed to Iraq Dec 1. But anything can happen between now and then, for God sits on the throne, and I have learned nothing moves the heart of God as a crying mother.

It seems like today everyone wants something for doing something so it is so nice when you hear or read a story like yours. what a gorgeous story...I just took DS2 down to enlist in the Navy, he has passed the first round of tests and has to go back next month...my dad and 2 of my 3 brothers are Navy and my uncle and cousin are Army :0)
Wow! Michelle that is awesome! I have been associated with the military for YEARS! LOL! I have 4 brothers who were/are military active and retired, am married to an E9 in the Air Force, I got out as an E5 from the Air Force, my son is AD Navy....I'm so proud of ALL of us! It is one big happy family and I have loved every minute of it!
